School Closures

Decisions on closures of schools are made at 5:30 a.m. on the day in question and are communicated to parents and the public by 6:30 a.m. School closure information is always communicated through RVS' website, Twitter account and Facebook page, as well as through all local media channels including area radio and television stations and local newspapers. The safety and well being of RVS students and staff is always the first consideration during significant weather events. Read more about RVS’ inclement weather procedures here.

Emergency Response

The Division has developed an Emergency Response Plan to deal with a wide range of emergency situations that may impact our school community. The Plan works in concert with other local emergency preparedness plans. The Division-wide plan and those plans tailored specifically to each individual school are reviewed and revised annually and, if required, after an emergency.

Our school has an on-site emergency team composed of school staff. We regularly provide staff with emergency training and practice various emergency drills with students and staff. A Division-based Emergency Response Team has also been established to assist schools in responding to emergencies.

Communication

If any concerns arise with your child in regard to their academic progress or emotional growth, you are urged to contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Working collaboratively on areas of concern greatly increases the chances of identifying the issues and successfully dealing with the issue. The school’s administration is available to assist teachers and parents as they address areas of concern.

Three-Way Conferencing

Parent-Teacher- Student conferencing is a key part of our communication strategy regarding your child’s progress.  At Rainbow Creek, we use a web-based scheduling application called the Conference Manager https://rainbowcreek.schoolsoft.ca.  This application allows parents to use the Internet to check our teachers’ conference schedules and book appointments quickly and easily.

The first time you use the Conference Manager you will be required to register for a new account, which only takes a minute or two.  To register, go to https://rainbowcreek.schoolsoft.ca and click on Register Now.  An email will be sent to the address you specified that restates your user name and password.  If your email program flags automated emails as junk mail, you may want to put  “appointments@schoolsoft.ca” in your email address book.

Health Services

Our Health Services for children are provided by the Calgary Health Region.  Our Public Health Nurse will visit our school once each week and provide service for individuals or classes. The primary student related services are:

  • Immunizations
  • Consultation about the prevention and control of communicable diseases
  • Consultation to teachers about health education topics and resources

Allergy Policy

Rainbow Creek Elementary School is an "Allergy Aware" school.  Each classroom is clearly marked anaphylactic causing allergens. Being allergy aware means that we take precautions to reduce the chance of exposure for students to allergens while acknowledging that it is impossible to eliminate all risk.  Parents who have children with allergies must notify the office of them.

In classrooms marked with a red “Allergy Alert” bar, these foods are NOT permitted in the classroom due to the risk of anaphylactic shock. These foods can be in the school but can not be brought into the labelled classrooms. Hand washing is encouraged to ensure allergens are not spread throughout the school. To reduce the risk of anaphylactic shock through contact with an allergen, food is not allowed on the playground.

If an “Allergy Alert” sign is posted outside your child’s classroom, please consult the teacher before sending treats for the class.

SafeArrival

What is SafeArrival? SafeArrival is an absence management system that improves student safety and makes it easy for you to let the school know about your child’s absence.
